A new era has dawned with the release of the latest text-to-speech software, enabling remote access to computers with speech. Thanks to the continual enhancements of Windows Remote Desktop, bandwidth limits and speech synthesis itself, GW Micro and Freedom Scientific have now refined the capability to cause the spoken text from a remote machine to be played in the way it normally would on a local machine. As long as the application is installed on the remote computer, a remote session passes all control over, including internal and synthesized speech sound. All the standard Windows commands still work as expected on the remote computer when you are connected to it, including ALT+TAB, CTRL+TAB, and CTRL+ESCAPE. Furthermore, a simple keyboard shortcut, namely ALT+CTRL+PAUSE (far upper right key) activates the remote session bar, from which you can easily ALT+TAB back to the other windows on the main host computer.
Now the world of remote processing looks bright! As soon as the test stations are added to the OSI domain, I’ll have access to again work from home =). The only thing left to be done is integrate virtual machines and remote desktop without pre-installed synthesis.
