Amish Friendship Bread

DO NOT REFRIGERATE
*If air gets in, let it out.
*It’s normal for batter to rise, bubble and ferment.

Day 1 – This is the day you get the batter. Do nothing.
Day 2-5 – Mush the bag.
Day 6 – Add to the bag 1 cup each: milk, flour, sugar. Mush bag.
Day 7-9 – Mush the bag.
Day 10 – Pour batter into non-metal bowl and use a non-metal spoon. Add 1 ½ cups each milk, flour, sugar. Sir until smooth.
Measure out 4 cups of batter and put 1 cup into 4 gallon size zip-lock bags. Keep 1 bag for yourself and share others. Include these directions when you share.
If you keep one for yourself, you will be making 2 loaves every 10 days. Remember only the Amish know how to make the starter; so if you give all of them away, you will have to wait for someone to give you one back.

Baking instructions:
After removing 4 cups of starter from bowl add

– 2 cups flour

– ½ tsp baking powder
– ½ tsp salt
– 2 tsp cinnamon
– 1 box instant vanilla pudding ( substitute 2 tsp vanilla)
– 1 cup nuts (optional)
