The latest showing of James Bond was a marvelous film despite all the grumblings of my movie critics at OSI. Its release was a perfect time for an extended celebration. We made it to the 5:50 showing here in ton just as the previews were getting underway. The new James Bond, in true form, began with an extravagant show of action, fire and drama. Then, in true British style, the comic commentary began. Unlike other action movies, the dialog was sufficient to follow the story through the majority of the adventure. When Bond takes the director into hiding from the mad agent in his old home, Skyfall, the second wave of action began with a full-on attack. But the details really don’t matter at that point. In the end good prevails over evil in this brave new world. While it is true the highly enjoyed gadgets of traditional Bond were missing, a return to the basics played well with the side-plot of testing his character and fitness. All and all a thumbs up.
