The first phase of virtualization was successful! The glitch in installing Windows 10 as the primary operating system, and the error with Window-Eyes restarting at regular intervals, caused another week delay. Yet once speech was activated and the remote desktop connection found, we were ready for action. Everything behaved beautifully from the remote server as though it was running locally. JAWS 17 worked great. So all that is needed is a cheat sheet of shortcuts for navigating the remote desktop connection. Here are a few key ones.
Key Keyboard Shortcuts for Remote Desktop Connections
Switch between remote and local view: Ctrl+Alt+Pause
Pressing the pause key (also the break key, which is typically found with the scroll lock key) with alt and control, will switch focus between the remote and local computer. Ctrl+Alt+Pause also switches between full screen and windowed mode, while keeping the remote desktop window at its standard size without filling the entire local desktop.
Open the Start menu with Alt+Home
Just as pressing the Windows key on your local desktop gives quick access to installed programs , the Alt+Home keyboard combination in a Remote Desktop session displays the Start menu on the remote system.
Open the Windows menu: Alt+Delete
Press the Alt+Delete keyboard combination in a Remote Desktop session to open the Windows menu of an application running on the remote system. The Windows menu is typically displayed under the icon in the extreme upper left corner of most Windows applications, and it lets you move and resize the application.
Move between running programs:
Alt+Insert, Alt+Page up or Alt+Page down
Pressing the Alt+Insert keyboard combination lets you cycle through the programs on the remote system in the order that they were opened. This process is the same as using Alt+Tab on your local desktop.
Alt+Page Up moves between programs from left to right in the Windows task switcher. This is the same as Alt+Tab on your standard desktop.
Alt+Page Down moves between running applications from right to left in the Windows task switcher. This is the same as Alt+Shift+Tab on your standard desktop.
Open the Microsoft Windows Security dialog (Alt-Ctrl-Delete): Ctrl+Alt+End
Send a Ctrl+Alt+Del signal to the remote system by Pressing Ctrl+Alt+End.
the remote system.
