How the seasons change so quickly from the sultry heat of summer to the wincing bite of winter. Just over two weeks ago a thousand heat lamps were staring down on the bay. Now, not yet half way through the month, the first rain storm has come to our western shore. True, usually October is the month of change. We begin with the lingering heat waves and expect Halloween to be dark and cold. But the change I speak of is often one of gentle transition, like the twilight from day to night, that perfect moment of peaceful freshness. While a late summer thunder storm can be expected in August, most years the first big rains do not come until November or December. Yet here it is\u2026with both high winds and pineapple drops. In other parts of the world our storm would be called a monsoon. Everyone received two inches of fresh water from today\u2019s burst; some cities even got five! Now as the eye lumbers overhead, the torrent has subsided. Let tomorrow tell where the thunderstorms shall travel.
